Once a debate arose as to who among Brahma, Shiva, and
Vishnu was the greatest. After much thought, it was decided that the
noble sage, Bhrigu, would be sent to test the three gods.
Bhrigu first went to Brahma, but did not pay his respects to him.
Brahma felt very insulted at this behaviour.
His next destination was Mount Kailash; where Shiva resided. He was not
happy with his ways.
The god, who was known for his violent temper, chased Bhrigu with a
trident. Some how managing to escape, Bhrigu reached Vaikunthaloka where
Vishnu was reclining on Seshnag.
Bhrigu kicked Vishnu on his chest. Startled, Vishnu awoke and begged
forgiveness and said "Kindly allow me to nurse your feet which hit
against my hard chest."
Seeing Vishnu's concern and care, Bhrigu and the sages declared him the
greatest of the gods. |
