Once there was a man named Supriya, who was a dedicated
devotee of Shiva. He worshipped Shiva day and night.
Daruk, a cruel demon who lived nearby, did not like Supriya's devotion. In some way or the other, he wanted to hurt Supriya and was always
thinking of devious ways of doing so. One day, he went with the other
demons and captured the boat in which Supriya was travelling. But Supriya
was not affected by this. He made a Shivalinga on the boat and started
worshipping it. When Daruk saw this, he ordered the other demons to kill
all the people on the boat.
All of a sudden, Shiva appeared and killed the demons. Shiva then gave
Supriya a divine weapon, the Pashupatastra, with which he killed Daruk.
The Shivalinga which Supriya had made is still present in Dwarkapuri,
Gujrat and is worshipped as Nageshwara. |
